These are so great. A couple that really resonated: "Giving myself zero points for winning. I wrote about this last week. As I’ve come to learn, when you treat success as “something you were supposed to do,” you’ve already lost."
And setting new years resolutions. Ugh... Yeah. Cringe.
For me, even intentions can be pretty demoralizing if the intention *turns out* to ultimately be out of my control (which is, ahem, sometimes the case, and, ahem, probably should have been obvious to me)
59 though!!! Waaaa!!! Bobcats are so cute. I wanna snuggle them but they have murder mittens. “If not friend, why friend shaped?”
Incredible list, Chris. I know I’ll be returning to this again and again. I no longer set resolutions for the new year. I pick a word that I want to embody and have it at my work desk the whole year to remind me of my intention. I’ve really enjoyed that over hard line resolutions. Can’t wait for part 2!!! 💥
Wow... we do think alike on so many things...evidently the wrong things! I don't think I could have come up with 50 much less 100! I had some smiles in there too Chris. Very self-aware, and it helps us as we read.
Awesome article as always Chris, and kudos for being brave to even write something like this. It shouldn’t, but i know many of us including myself, will sometime read this and end up giving ourselves an even harder time. Hope you don’t though, cause it does serve as a reminder of what we can do better, but also a huge reminder on how much grace we should continue to give ourselves cause we’re only human. Despite not sharing the disease you go through, i feel like i do a lot of items 90 - 59 hahaha…and saw myself in a lot of what you said and did 🤣😂🤣 maybe managing my depression throughout my life gives a similar outcome and even process…look forward to the second half of this article 😉
Thanks Jimmy! I definitely feel the urge to beat myself up sometimes for these mistakes, but I also think about how they've helped me grow and get to where I am today, which is more important.
I concur with that sentiment. We often beat ourselves up about certain parts of ourselves as we try to reach our goals (whatever they may be), but often forget that sometimes those same parts is what leads us to where we want to be….part of the journey so to speak 😉 we deal too much with absolutes…even with ourselves
Virtual hugs. It can often be surprising to learn, after everything, each and everyone of us is human, doing the best we can, the best way we know how, at the time.
I have experienced 'The School of Life' frequently hands out the exam before the lesson.
Congrats on your upcoming book, Chris. That is a major goal near completion. Keep moving forward. Rest when you need before exhaustion sets in. My alert to exhaustion is the feeling of being overwhelmed.

Thank you! New Years resolutions always end in tears or disappointment (or both). I've found it's much easier to set intentions instead.

Fair. I take my intentions one day at a time. It's usually, "make an intention tomorrow" 😀
Haha love this!

Murder mittens 😂😂😂. Yeah bobcats are cute...from afar. Just like coyotes.
Great post, Chris! I’ve learned several of these myself, and still struggle with many. It’s helpful to see it all laid out as you’ve done.
Thanks Cherie!

Congratulations on finishing your second draft! That’s awesome. Great combo of heartfelt and humor in this one.
Thanks Jackie!
Add #736 (lol), beating myself up
#736a ...in public!
But yes to self-awareness!
Ah yes that's another mistake of mine. I think that might be on my list for next week!
This hit the spot like a girl's night after the whole house has the plague. Damn you, now I want to write a countdown post. 🤣
Your resiliency is food for my soul. THANK YOU for continuing to share with us. 🫶
This might be one of my favorite comments ever. Thank you! (And write a countdown post!)
🫶 I WILL!!
Yesss
#86 all day everyday!!! 👏🤩🎊
I thought of you when I wrote it!
Great thoughts and you explain them with a wonderful sense of humor. Keep it up! You inspire us all.
Thank you so much Louise!

Thank you! Well said - I like how you put it that "life hands out the exam before the lesson." So true!
