This blog post is beautifully written. I cried happy tears throughout. Carly's mom is a dear friend and has helped so many people through her work with Helping Parents Heal since Carly's passing. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree; Carly and her mom share the same giving, luminous personality that brightens everything and everyone around them. Thank you for sharing this for Carly's 10-year Angel Date. I know that it will help many parents and families heal.
What a beautiful tribute to Carly, I felt like I knew her from reading this. Your post really touched me, Chris. It reminded me of my dear departed colleague Megan Daley, who passed away from an undiagnosed heart condition in her mid-20s in the mid-2000s. We worked together in my first job in publishing. She was also a dear, sweet soul with so much energy. Her Facebook is now a memorial: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=9119645.
This is such a beautifully-written tribute, Chris - the bond that you and Carly clearly shared was obviously beyond special, and this post absolutely shines with starlight. ✨ Heartbreaking, humbling and delightful.
Thank you for writing this, Chris. My fiancé is a good friend of Carly’s from her days at BC and I have heard so much about her despite having not met her before she passed. Through all the pictures, and the stories such as yours, I feel like I have spent plenty of time with her. A wonderful, caring, beautiful person that everyone wants to meet. Someone who just makes life better for everyone in close proximity. While I wish I could have met her in person, I feel extremely lucky that friends like you let me meet her in spirit. Thank you again.
I had to read this is two sittings, as I lost one of my closests friends, Mel, to cancer at the start of this month, the funeral was only a couple of weeks ago.
She interviewed me for my first job in the energy sector 25 years ago. I didn't report to her after the interview, but she became first a mentor of sorts, but that rapidly turned in to a friendship as we have the same interest in London - music, cinema, theatre and generally the same values i.e. a bit lefty, be a decent human, help others.
Then we became flatmates (CSI and Columbo marathons are happy memories!) and she was the Best Maid at my wedding as I didn't have a Best Man.
She moved to Amsterdam for work sometime in 2006-ish, and I was one of her references so some sort of work based circularity there.
Even thought geography got in the way a bit in more recent years, we remained close and meet up for things like festivals here in the UK and visits to Holland.
I described our friendship to another mate the other day that Mel and I were like peas in a pod.
I can see how your friend Carly still impacts you in a good way, even though the pain is stil there.
Thanks for sharing your story, it has hit a note with me.
What a lovely tribute to sweet, beautiful Carly. Chris, sharing your story and the story of how Carly impacted your life is brave and heartwarming. Holding you close in my heart and sending you love and light.

You did it. This is all exactly right. It’s perfect. Thank you for carrying her with you.
Thanks Katie. Once I decided to focus on the happier stories, I realized it was the best way to make her personality shine through!
