Brilliant, honest and inspiring. Thank you. I particularly love 'talk with people you disagree with' - I think it's the only way to bridge the enormous divides that exist in today's society.
Such a powerful post, Chris. Saving it to read again and again. I feel discouraged more often than I care to, and (again!) you have set me on the path of dealing with all that! Thank you! 😊
You know a while ago I read the book “Mountains beyond Mountains” which is a biography of Dr. Paul Farmer. Now that you tell me about this Haitian proverb, I finally understand why the book was named as such - a lot of his work was on fighting TB in Haiti. It really is a good proverb. I suppose the fun is in summiting each mountain.
I agree. I think even though we know there are more obstacles to come, it helps to know that we've been through them before. And celebrate the victories when they happen!
How was the book? That's been on my reading list for a while but I haven't gotten around to reading it.
So good, Chris. I 100% wish this had been the commencement speech at my graduation. I read a lot but rarely read things twice so I don't keep a lot of books but Viktor Frankl's is one I always have on hand and go back to when I start getting pulled down in life or I'm in a slump. So much great wisdom and insight in your post.
Hi Chris, loved reading this speech. I used to wonder if one day, all of our suffering would pay off/be rewarded, but turns out that is not the case! It’s always one challenge after another, our attitude matters the most. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
Thanks Wen! I read The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday recently and he included a Haitian proverb that said: "Behind mountains are more mountains." I thought that was a great way to look at it. We put forth all this effort to overcome a challenge, and although it shows us a lot about ourselves, there is yet another mountain.

Thanks Jason! Yes, this is such an important thing. I added that section last-minute and I'm glad I did!

Applause! Applause! Applause! Standing ovation! Crowd cheers wildly! xo
Better than jeers and throwing things!
LOL. Immediately thought of Zaslav...I have this funny feeling you'd pay writers what they're due, though. xo
